The pictures below are of a model of the proposed Quincy Quarry and Granite Workers Museum locacted at the Lyons Turning Mill site on Ricciuti Drive. The site is located below the ballroom at Granite Links Club House. The site was chosen for the following reasons: it has within its boundry a pristine quarry and ledge formation, it has the actual footprint of the mill's stone walls still standing, it has the area to establish what a typical Quincy quarrry looked like when in operation including boom and mast, and the area to establish a replica of a typical stone shed operation and blacksmith's shop, it also has the area where a demonstration of stone splitting and stone cutting could be demonstrated, it does not infringe on any historical artifacts on the site, has no wetland or environmental issues and is owned by the City of Quincy and leased to Quarry Hills. It will also establish more historical points within the City to enhance tourism and enhance the area of Quarry Hills Drive.
We will be adding new pictures of the current Lyons Turning Mill Site soon...
